MARATHON is a movie that sounds like stereotypical sappiness on paper, but it is the biggest Korean hit of the year so big that every other movie is eating its dust. Based on a true story, MARATHON is all about a twenty-year-old autistic guy (played by Cho Seung-Woo) whose one pleasure is running. Happy that he can do anything, his mom hires him a coach to train him to run marathons, but the only coach she can afford is a washed up loser whose best days are way behind him.

In Korea, a bonafide blockbuster will sell about 3 millions tickets. MARATHON
has sold twice that many, and it's still trucking along. Its plot may sound
corny, but audiences and critics have been rightly praising it as one of the
must-see Korean films of the year, and Cho Seung-Woo's lead performance has been acclaimed as one of the year's best.
